Subsection1.1Course Texts

  1. (Required) Austin, D. (2018). Understanding Linear Algebra. Available as an open educational resource online at http://bit.ly/austinula.
  2. (Optional) Lay, D. (2011). Linear Algebra and its Applications. 4th Edition. Pearson Publishing. ISBN 0321385179.

Dr. S says: Austin's excellent, accessible, interactive online text will be our main resource for the course, and all our social reading assignments will occur in its margins. Lay's text, meanwhile, is a comprehensive and application-rich "gold standard" of the subject. We'll make references to Lay on occasion. I recommend buying a copy if your future plans may include research and/or graduate study in any branch of pure or applied mathematics.
